Joseph R. May focuses his insurance defense practice on premises liability, coverage, construction, and automobile negligence, including third party liability and no fault. Joe brings to Kopka Pinkus Dolin extensive experience in complex civil litigation matters in state and federal courts. He counsels clients on a wide range of risk management and legal issues. Joe takes a pro-active approach to file handling, and often moves cases to an early, favorable resolution.
Prior to joining the firm, Joe worked at a Chicago firm, where he handled all of the Indiana cases. He specialized in premises liability litigation, and personal injury, defending long term care facilities, as well as a variety of commercial and not for profit organizations.
Joe is knowledgeable in litigating civil proceedings in federal court regarding employment and civil rights matters, as well as in state courts in the context of general civil matters. He is experienced in civil appeals, and has assisted in the appellate review of complex cases.
Joe is a United States Marine Corps Veteran, earning several commendations and awards throughout his enlistment. He earned his Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law; and graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with honors and with high distinction.

Much to the satisfaction of his client, Joe recently resolved a personal injury case in a timely manner with favorable terms and a settlement far less than the client anticipated.
