Crown Point, Indiana – Congratulations to Partner Ricardo Hall on his recent trial success. This issue arose from an automobile accident wherein the insured turned left in front of the plaintiff, who claimed to have had the right of way. The plaintiff also claimed that the accident caused injury to her shoulder which necessitated surgery. In preparation for trial, Ricardo and his team developed a theme that he repeated throughout: the insured was no more responsible for the accident than was the plaintiff, and that plaintiff’s underlying injury was unrelated to the accident. Plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury to award $125,000. Ultimately, the jury’s verdict was $5,000 (a total verdict of $10,000, reduced by 50% for comparative fault). Notably our client was willing to settle for about $10,000 earlier in the proceedings.
