Kelsie Farris discovered her passion for law while watching the civil rights issues of the early to mid-2010s unfold: racial injustice, economic inequality, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrant rights, all playing out on the national stage. Those formative experiences instilled in her a natural inclination to help people in need and a commitment to choosing a career that would enable her to change the world she lived in. She chose to practice law because it allows her to bring empathy and compassion to clients facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Kelsie has spent her career in insurance defense, with a focus on health care law and medical malpractice defense. Litigating these claims has given her firsthand insight into the challenges facing healthcare professionals and institutions, from regulatory scrutiny to the high stakes of patient care. She is committed to providing practical counsel and responsive client service throughout all stages of the complex legal process.

At Kopka Law Group, Kelsie is focused on growing into a trusted advisor for insurance defense clients, guiding them through the full lifecycle of a lawsuit, from early risk assessment through resolution. Kopka’s collaborative team defense model gives her the chance to work alongside diverse, experienced attorneys on multifaceted liability cases and contribute directly to successful client outcomes.

Outside the office, Kelsie serves as a volunteer with Autism Speaks, where she has learned to make the most of limited resources while building close relationships within the community. The experience has shaped her approach to leadership and service. For Kelsie, true advocacy isn’t just about winning an argument; it’s about building sustainable structures that support people. That motivation carries into her legal work every day.

Not all her favorite challenges occur in the courtroom. Kelsie has recently taken up stand-up comedy, which has given her a creative outlet and a good mental workout. She enjoys thinking on her feet and finding the right way to connect with a room, skills that, perhaps unsurprisingly, complement her professional life.

At home, life is just as full. Her husband, Kyle, is also an attorney, and the two met in law school. Together they have two children, Sadie and James, and the family is completed by their dog, Scout. Between a growing career, a new creative pursuit, and everything else that comes with family life, she has plenty to keep her busy. It’s also what keeps her grounded and reminds her why the human side of her work matters so much.
