We are proud to announce that this holiday season the Illinois and Indiana offices raised $710.00 in a single week to provide items from the wish lists of families sheltered by the St. Jude House. We will be able to fill wish lists for two families (two mothers and four children, the youngest being only six months old.) The Michigan office raised $150.00 to support the homeless youth at Covenant House. Numerous studies conducted during the past decade identify domestic violence as a primary cause of homelessness in the United States. Most of the mothers who seek refuge at the St. Jude House were forced to flee their homes with only their children and the clothes on their backs, while many young adults at Covenant House, ages 18-24, ran from abusive homes. These organizations are dedicated to providing services to help these families break the cycle of violence and become healthy, self-sufficient members of society.
The holidays are a time when we focus on family. We count our blessings and hold tight to the ones we love. So it is fitting that this is the time of year when we give back to organizations that support families who are struggling in hopes that they will find the footing they need to lift themselves out of tragic situations. Years ago, before we carried the internet in our pockets and when help from these organizations was not as accessible, mothers who were lucky enough to escape abusive households barely had the means to feed their children, let alone the resources to bring about any holiday magic. It is because of St. Jude House that we get to do our part to procure just a little bit of innocence, by providing clothes, toys, and gift cards. So even if it is for a moment of joy, we are giving these children something to smile about and their mothers the moment to witness those smiles.
We are grateful to work for an employer who embraces the concept of bringing people together and strengthening our communities through giving back. Kopka Pinkus Dolin provides us the opportunity to support various organizations throughout the year by making donations and volunteering our time. Giving from the heart connects us as a culture, and it has a positive impact on our professional and personal lives. In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” Happy Holidays!
